Sculptor Emanuela Ravelli with Architect Pavlos Antoniades and Interior Designer Christiana Markidou talking over a coffee about her’s and Verter Turroni’s work, art and how these find expression in their furniture. Sometimes practical other times expressive but always provocative their work is unique and nothing else you will ever see. Some of their furniture are truly haunting as images expressing a dynamic antithesis between movement, flow and absolute stillness.

One of the most popular places in Milan with Designers and my favorite relaxing spot. 10 Corso Como was founded in 1990 in an old industrial building offering in a number of interconnecting spaces exclusive fashion brands shopping, an Art Gallery, One of the best I have ever seen Design Bookshop, an excellent Bar, Coffee shop, and a Hotel with 3 rooms! No minimalism here but real life design with an individualistic flair, the place is always busy and if you are ever in Milan make sure you go there.
Returning from my visit to Milan, for the International Furniture Fair, us every year I can not but wonder how do the Milanese manage, year after year to put on the greatest show on earth.
Milan is not one of the beautiful cities of Italy, in fact with its cold wet Winters and suffocating Summers, one has to ask, why has international design made it, its home. Nevertheless this Town has reinvented it self and for a few weeks every year it becomes a City that evokes design, elegance and luxury.
The whole city lives and breathes Design. With its premier Fashion Designers, talented Product Designers, its unique Furniture and Light Fairs and large scale Urban Architectural interventions like the Milan Trade Fair Building by Massimiliano Fuksas and the Santa Giulia Apartments by Foster and Partners, has became, undoubtedly the most inspiring City on Design in the World.
My five days there proved not enough to cover all that went on at the Furniture Fair and more importantly in the City it self.
Amazing events, Art exhibitions, meetings and designer’s parties kept us busy from morning to late in the night. Unforgettable was the unveiling, during a party, held in the fashion district, of the new designs of Baccarat by six premier word designers, amongst them Philippe Starck, Mathias Jaime Hayon, Arik Levy who were on hand to talk to quest about their design influences. Also the yearly Baxter party with their new furniture, where Designers, Architects, Artists and quest come together and have a chance to talk and exchange ideas about Design, Architecture fine Vine and Life in general.
I promise my self to be there again next year, remembering something I saw written on a wall in the Historic Centre of the Town ‘ There are many things in life that will catch your eye, but only a few that will catch your heart’
Milan during this period is one of them.
